Origin Integrated Studios: Digital Workflow for Better Healthcare Quality

Kenneth Kee, CEO, Origin Integrated StudiosKenneth Kee, CEO
As data continues to grow at an exponential rate, healthcare organizations are seeking innovative solutions to aggregate all health information and derive value from it. Amidst the growing competition in the Malaysian region, healthcare organizations are on the lookout for the best solution that will help them to manage the huge volume of medical data, maintain a consistent cost-to-profit ratio, and reduce the risk of clinical and operational errors. Observing the rising issues in the Malaysian healthcare space, Angust Gan, a passionate software developer and entrepreneur developed a plan to help the healthcare industry improve the quality of care by laying the cornerstone of Origin Integrated Studios. Bringing a decade of deep expertise in developing software for a variety of sectors, from banking to healthcare, Angust along with his proficient software development team set out to create groundbreaking products that include hospital information system (HIS) and electronic medical records (EMR). Today, Origin Integrated Studios is proud to serve more than 10 hospitals with over 2,000 beds and 500 doctors/specialists, supporting more than 5,000 application users in and around Malaysia.

    An Astute Developer

Leading the company to ever-greater heights of success is Kenneth Kee, CEO of Origin Integrated Studios, who upholds the ideology of the company being customer-centric, delivering continuous customer support and providing better services. Having a wealth of experience in the development of enterprise business software applications and solutions, Kenneth has also been instrumental in materializing the idea of digital forms.

“As a pioneer in providing HIS and EMR solutions to independent private hospitals, Origin helps a hospital’s IT team to create a flexible digital form module on an open web platform, which can replace paper charts, forms, and records,” says Kenneth. The significant aspect of Origin EMR system is that it can be integrated with any third-party HIS system, or connected directly to Origin’s HIS. Leveraging a simple user interface design, Origin EMR allows doctors to either type or write clinical notes using a lightweight tablet PC. As Origin’s EMR is template driven, it allows computerized physician order entry where healthcare institutions can customize their own medications, lab, and radiology orders.

We have a proven track record that shows the company always implements solutions on schedule, within months as opposed to years

As an EMR technology enabler, Kenneth points out, “Most of our competitors in the marketplace fall behind time in terms of the technology offering because they do not have comprehensive EMR features.”

    Integration and Implementation of EMR

Origin successfully integrates with laboratory, radiology, picture archiving and communication system, oncology and many other clinical subsystems and devices in the hospital through HL-7 compliance and modular API functions. It can also integrate with management subsystems such as financial, HR, mobile appointment, and queue management. Furthermore, by partnering with MIMS, a drug database provider, Origin integrates its EMR with MIMS core and comprehensive modules, providing a sophisticated clinical decision support system for hospitals to improve their medication administration practices.

The company engineers an efficient way to track data from multiple sources by offering dashboard reporting that gathers the information, analyzes and presents the hospital’s key performance metrics in a more visually appealing manner. Origin’s healthcare solutions help the IT team and other supervisors to be well informed about the hospital’s operational efficiency across all departments on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

According to Kenneth, in order to reap the complete benefit of EMR and HIS, healthcare organizations must implement the solutions quickly and successfully. “At Origin, we have a proven track record that shows the company always implements solutions on schedule, within months as opposed to years,” affirms Kenneth. As a result, the cost of implementation is lesser compared to other local and foreign competitors that take a much longer timeframe to deliver. The company makes use of effective software management practices to create logical configurable parameters to implement client’s requirements, which can be adjusted or enabled anytime. Overall, by providing the best price-to-service ratio in the continuous maintenance of their healthcare solution, Origin helps healthcare organizations to achieve tremendous cost reduction. “We also provide strong post-implementation support that helps clients to modify or enhance the software further if necessary,” adds Kenneth.

    Staying Ahead of the Game

Envisioning the future, Origin plans to integrate RFID and IoT technology into their solution. Origin’s future plans include strategically expanding its global presence by building business alliances and venturing into emerging markets. As a part of product expansion, the company is preparing to deploy enterprise data warehousing for integrated hospital information systems specifically for management, reporting, and clinical research. “As we navigate the exciting waters of ongoing hyper-growth in the region, we are focused on attracting more talent to join the company, investing on new healthcare technologies, providing robust technical and consultancy support,” ends the CEO.
